Working with Leaders is something I have done throughout my career. I have had the privilege of working with many exceptional people and today I had the pleasure of working with another.

This CEO was a joy to behold. Just by talking to her, you could see her leadership skills, even though she hadn’t acknowledged how much of a true leader she is. Capturing her approach is worth sharing with other Leaders.

Working with Leaders – Her Approach

  • Organised
  • Open and honest
  • Kind Supportive
  • Reflective and self-aware
  • Leads the way she would want to be led
  • Patience
  • Can-do attitude thinks outside the box
  • Encourages accountability
  • Sorts problems in the here and now, without a blame culture
  • Take ownership of her own failings and strives to improve
  • Brings in consultants for everyone’s benefit
  • Firm with good boundaries
  • Invested in people and keen for them to succeed
  • Creates an atmosphere of calm
  • Enthusiastic
  • Encourages ideas from others
  • A noticeably clear vision for the future of her organisation

She was asking for help with a work-related issue that was affecting her emotional self. Her main objective in seeking help was to ensure she was looking after her own emotional needs, by showing herself compassion and listening to herself. She wanted to ensure that she can continue to lead a large corporate organisation to the absolute best of her ability, by keeping herself nourished and centred. This is a vital component part for a true leader to embrace.

We all need someone to talk to who is non-judgemental, listening, and honest in their responses with no agenda or dependence. If you are in a senior position in your organisation, or own your own organisation, there are very few people you can speak to who will only focus on you. When you talk to family members, they can only grasp a certain amount and generally want you to detach from work when you are at home. If you talk to a business associate, they will often end up talking about themselves. This can leave you feeling really frustrated.

Working with Leaders – The challenges of Leaders

Many leaders in organisations have a coach and that helps them to find focus, set and visualise goals, and design a plan of action to ensure they are growing and moving their business forward. All of this is invaluable, however, as the Managing Director of my own counselling organisation, I understand the challenges of the leader.  Over the years I have developed a service for Leaders, Managing Directors, and CEO’s which brings a unique space that takes the leader from counselling the emotional self, building self-awareness, resolving issues from the past and present, and releasing negative emotion where you can cry and talk about the hidden bits no one else sees. The next stage in this leadership development program is personal development where you learn to build a nourishing relationship with yourself by addressing stress, building self-esteem, embrace true confidence, and examine your ability to develop the art of assertiveness. The 3rd and final stage is coaching… but only when you have sorted the other bits and you are clear to take off without any emotional restrictions.  You are the leader of an empire; look after yourself in all aspects and enjoy your journey!

Self-Awareness is the gift you give yourself”

Working with Leaders – my experience can

I have over 20 years’ experience in marriage, couple, and relationship counselling. Over this time, I have had the pleasure and privilege of helping countless couples resolve their differences and re-establish an emotional connection. I originally trained in couple counselling during 1999 with Glasgow Marriage Counselling Service, the sister company of RELATE. I found my vocation and remain passionate about the changes I help to facilitate with my clients.

Prior to counselling, I had a long and successful career working in Glasgow and London, in a variety of roles in large corporate organisations, both as an internal and external consultant. During this time, I gained invaluable experience in coaching, mentoring, training, NLP, consultancy, and business development.

Inevitably, in 2007 I decided to build a counselling organisation. I continue to work with a small number of couples and Leaders. In addition, I select, manage, and supervise the therapists, counsellors, and psychologists who work within Nightingale Counselling and run our exceptional private practice.

I am so pleased to be able to combine my skillset with 20 years as a couple counsellor working with relationships, and the previous 20 years in the corporate world. This is what makes this service so unique. The benefit from my experience in both these camps will be a great support for you. I have always really enjoyed working with leaders as I already know how supportive this service will be. Together we will take you to a place of personal and professional growth to nourish you as you emerge as an even stronger leader. Give us a call on 0141 353 9373 and get some uplifting support for you. Take the time to invest in yourself and reap the rewards.
