Coping with anxiety can be a lonely and isolating experience. There is no doubt this is a very scary emotion when it gets out of control and overwhelms you. Unlike fear, anxiety can occur without an identifiable trigger, making it harder to understand and explain. Mild anxiety is vague and unsettling, whilst severe anxiety can be extremely debilitating, having a serious impact on daily life. Symptoms of anxiety can start with no warning and be incredibly frightening. Although the fear that causes the anxiety is generally irrational, the subjective perception of danger is very real for the person experiencing anxiety and can sometimes result in panic attacks.

“I live in constant fear of anxiety overwhelming me and my ability to function. I want to reach out to friends and colleagues, but I am often embarrassed at being such a fruit loop. There are so many social events that I’ve cancelled and situations I’ve avoided as I feel they may trigger an attack. I have never reached my true potential in my career as I have always been scared to put myself out there.”

Nightingale Approach to Anxiety Counselling and Panic Attacks
Understanding your thoughts, how they affect your behaviours, feelings and emotions, is the key to taking back your personal power. When you learn to catch the negative thought and change it, you will learn to let go of the fear that anxiety will ever overwhelm you again. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT is an important element of our anxiety counselling toolbox, but it’s not the only therapeutic model we use. Our CBT counsellors and psychologists use CBT therapy in conjunction with other models of counselling to effect change. The approach we use ensures we are able to help you to break patterns from the past, and recognise and control the symptoms in the present which are causing you to feel anxious. We will teach you how to use tools that will enable you to take back control and stay on track in the future.

I was in a bad way for a while with anxiety and longer COVID and I really didn’t know what way was up, and then I got put on to Selena from Nightingale and things have been great ever since. I was scared and nervous to begin with and worried people would think I was nuts. Selena was very kind, patient, and understanding, and really completely changed the way I was viewing every situation I faced in life. Selena is a very knowledgeable woman who really turned things around for me. I cannot praise her enough for all her help and will never forget all of the coping techniques and tips she taught me. I truly am forever grateful.
