Bereavement Counselling

For most of us, bereavement will be the most psychologically distressing experience we will ever face. The death of a significant person is a devastating loss and there is no ‘normal’ or ‘right’ way to grieve. Bereavement counselling can play an important role in your grieving process.

One thing that we all experience in grief is a desire to feel better about the passing of a loved one and to reach a stage of acceptance that allows us to reconnect with our own lives and feel more positive about the passing of our loved ones.

Bereavement Counselling – Your journey

The journey through grief can bring many emotional responses and sometimes the love and patience of friends and family is not enough. We can be left with an overwhelming sense of hopelessness and helplessness, as well as a range of emotions. Often it is difficult to talk about the bereavement with your nearest and dearest, as they may well be experiencing the same bereavement.

Bereavement counselling can play an important role in your grieving process. Working through this journey with a bereavement counsellor can help you come to terms with your loss and acknowledge this loss in a more productive way. It will take time and we will go at your pace. It is advisable to seek out bereavement counselling after three months has passed. The reason for this is there needs to be a period of adjustment and you need to be ready to embrace the various stages that bereavement counselling will bring to you.

“I sat with my anger long enough until she told me her real name was grief.”

The mind journal

We need to keep moving and not become stuck in any stage of the grieving process. Unresolved grief can manifest itself in lots of negative emotions, therefore, working through the process will help you to accept and take a step forward.

Testimonial

I would like to thank Nightingale very much for the kindness and understanding afforded to me during my recent times with them. I would especially like to thank my bereavement counsellor for the patience, kindness, help and understanding given to me during my sessions. Like a lot of people, I did not know what to expect when first arranging to meet a counsellor but my sessions have provided me with understanding confidence and strength to go forward with my life following the death of my dear wife. Should the situation ever arise I would have no hesitation in recommending Nightingales to any family, friends or colleagues.
